John Clarke, former major organizer for the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP), recently posted the following on Facebook:
We are seeing huge attacks on working class living standards and a rising mood of militancy arising from this. In this context, union structures wedded to rituals of class compromise are an impediment. When, inevitably, an effort is made to impose settlements that fall short, it is imperative that the left speaks out clearly and critically. As with this article, rather than try and make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, we must seriously consider whether ground was won back and pose hard questions about how more could have been achieved.
