Exaggeration of the Extent of Conscious Opposition to International Law Does Workers, Citizens, Immigrants and Workers No Good

John Clarke, former major organizer of the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP), recently posted on Facebook the following:

The international rule of law is a cynical lie but having the whole world know it’s a lie is a big problem for the people who spout it [my emphasis].

The issue of legitimacy of the genocide taking place in Gaza and the West Bank is certainly important for the ruling class, but it is a vast exaggeration to post something that states that the whole world knows that international law is a cynical lie is itself a lie. I suspect that most people are indifferent to international law–they are simply trying to live their lives as best they kind.

Such exaggeration vastly underestimates the work that needs to be done to undermine the legitimacy of domestic law and international law–an ideological struggle.
