Guatemala: How Some Employers Realize How Important Ideology Is and How Important Social Supports of Ideology Are

Introduction

Does the radical left consider it necessary to engage in ideological struggles on a frequent basis against not only employers’ (and their representatives’) views but also against social-reformist ideology?

Employers certainly see the importance of engaging in ideological battles. A case in point is Guatemala’s employers in the sugar industry.

Guatemalan Employers’ Ideological Offensive

Guatemala’s sugar industry rakes in profits thanks to high productivity, low wages

Note how Guatemalan employers use similar or even identical phrases to the Canadian social-reformist or social-democratic left, such as “decent jobs.”

What is the radical left doing to challenge the ideology, not only of particular employers, but of employers as a class? Should they not be engaged in systematic critiques of both? Are they?

Conclusion

Guatemlan employers certainly engage in ideological efforts to cloak their exploitation and oppression of workers. Should not such efforts be challenged at every opportunity? Are they?
