David Bush, self-proclaimed leftist, posted a reply on his Facebook page to a comment by Todd Ferguson concerning the following rally held on June 22, 2025:

Ferguson made the comment that the rally would be held when the embassy (unsure if he wrote embassy or consulate) was closed that day, implying that he wondered whether such a rally might be more effective when the embassy/consulate was open.
David Bush, on his Facebook page, replied that it was childlike thinking to think that they were going to storm the Consulate (and he stated that it was consulate and not an embassy). The purpose of the rally, he implied, was to organize as many people as possible who were horrified by the war.
I replied something like the following: I did not understand David’s making a distinction between consultate and embassy and its relevance–whether there was any tactical difference whether it was a consulate or an embassy.
David called seizing the consulate as childish thinking, and he stated somethink like the movement did not need such nonsense.
I also made the following commentary (more or less): I wondered about David’s logic in trying to organize as many people as possible against the war. I pointed out that such a tactic focuses on quantity, not quality. I argued that Black Lives Matter had many people supporting the movement, but at least some of them participated in the protests because it was “the thing to do”–because others were doing it. The level of participation by some was superficial, but I implied that what was needed was involvement at a more in-depth level.
I also argued that even more dedicated participants shifted focus as the movement waned.
I argued, secondly, that Guatemalan peasants, students and labour activists occupied the Spanish Embassy in 1980. I asked whether David thought that this was childish and whether this was nonsense.
David’s response? He probably blocked me. I can no longer access his Facebook page.
This is a common experience I have had with so-called leftist activists in Toronto on Facebook. They make assertions, and anyone who challenges their assertions are censored. Such is the nature of democracy for the social-democratic left.
This is one of the reasons why I created my own blog.
